My wife wanted a patio, but she said nothing about wanting an awning or a roof over the patio.

I called a general contractor to build a patio off our kitchen, and add a sliding door going from the kitchen to the patio.

Had she said she wanted an enclosed patio, or a patio with screening and a roof, I would have had it done, but she didn’t. I didn’t want to call a contractor again and ask to have the screening all around the patio. I didn’t want to hire a roofer to put a roof over the patio. She wasn’t happy that I hadn’t considered this when she said she wanted a patio. What good was a patio if it was too hot to sit and relax? What good was a patio if the bugs were in the food and biting? As much as I hated to admit, she was right. I called the general contractor who had built the patio and asked about the screening and the roofing. He told me the screening would be a simple job, but the roofing would be something different. He asked if we would be interested in an awning. My wife said she wanted the roof, because she didn’t want bugs getting in the patio area. He understood but said we could get tiki torches that ran on oil that chased the bugs away. She refused and said she wanted a roof. We had to add more stability to the sides of the patio and add struts to support the roof, but we now had a roof over the patio.
