I wanted to be a general contractor, but I wasn’t sure where to start. I knew I needed my license, which I had, and I needed employees. I had been working for a contractor for many years, and bought the business when he retired. I only had to get my personal contractor license. I was hoping the old customers would stick with me since they knew me, but I was wrong. I remembered how it was when I was looking for contractors to do work on my home. I knew how to do the roofing and siding, but I wasn’t a plumber or an electrician. I needed a general contractor who had every part of the home building and repairs covered. I had to have woodworkers, painters, roofers, etc., all in place. I knew contracting for services wasn’t fun, but I was now the contractor. I tried to talk to several insurance companies the previous owner was working with, but I didn’t have the business long enough. I told my wife I had made a big mistake taking on the ownership of the contracting company. She told me I needed to advertise contracting services on Angie. Anyone looking for home repairs in this area would see my website come up in the search.
