I get cold really easily so from the beginning of my training I was already mentally preparing myself for the cold temperatures of the hospital.
I have been working in a hospital for all of my adult life. When I was a little girl I spent a great deal of time in hospitals as well. I was always getting sick as a kid and as a result I spent a lot of time in and out of the hospital. I guess you could say that being sick as a kid inspired me to go into the field. I always knew that I wanted to be a nurse and I knew that it would be hard work to finally be in a hospital in a role other than a patient. I studied really hard and graduated at the top of my class, I was really proud of myself! Growing up in and out of the hospital, I already knew how cold it was going to be to work in this kind of environment all the time. A hospital is required to keep the air conditioner set to a certain temperature so that it does not have the ability for infections to grow. Many times when the heater is going a mold and mildew and start to form. Having a cold space is better for the hospital environment and I knew that it would be a daily struggle to keep warm. I knew that the HVAC controls were set by the hospital administration and that the staff was under no circumstances allowed to touch them!
