Still, the idea of my HVAC unit being destroyed so a thief can make pennies on the dollar from my copper fittings was unacceptable.
There are certainly periods of time where I just don’t recognize my country any longer. Or maybe it’s just that so many concerns that metro areas have dealt with for decades has now reached the rural communities. But the fact that I had to order an anti-theft cage to put of the HVAC equipment outside my home is sort of stunning. That’s really the only recourse I have. Apparently, there folks out there that are interested in the copper fittings inside residential HVAC equipment. This is the HVAC cabinet that sits outside the house. Inside that cabinet, there are thousands of dollars of components including the compressor and the condenser for the residential HVAC. In my mind, I would think that the thieves would at least take those parts with them. But instead, they just rip out whatever is in their way in order to get to the copper fittings. This made no sense until I talked with the HVAC professionals. It appears that with the copper fittings, they can easily get cash. With stolen HVAC parts, it’s much harder to find a buyer. Still, the idea of my HVAC unit being destroyed so a thief can make pennies on the dollar from my copper fittings was unacceptable. The HVAC professionals were able to get me set up with a website where I could order the cage that will lock down over the HVAC equipment. Like I said, it’s still just so incredible to me that this is what it’s coming to in our community. But I guess this is also sort of the state of our country as well.
