We are definitely riding out the last of the great weather right about now.

From October into May, we enjoy some really lovely weather in these parts. Winter is perhaps my favorite because the temperatures are just about perfect. However, there are times here and there when the heat pump has to kick on with a bit of heating. But by and large, the Winter and early Spring provide the most spectacular weather you could ever ask for. Soon however, the Summer heat will be upon us and that means retreating indoors for the peak heating hours of the day. Many of us are spending those hours inside the commercial HVAC of work or school. For me, I work from home so I have to be on top of the thermostat setting during the Summer. Left alone, the air conditioning costs can get away from you. That’s why I make sure that I am paying attention to the air conditioning all the time. The Spring is for getting accustomed to rising temperatures so I leave the heat pump off most of the time. But there are times during the peak heating hours where I have to give a blast of cooling to the house. When the Summer heat arrives in June, I get to programming the digital thermostat to make sure that I’m not over cooling the house. I generally keep the thermostat no more than 15 degrees cooler than the outside temperature during peak heating hours. It’s not too bad as long as I have the fans on me. And we cool the house down nicely to the mid 70’s for sleeping at night. But I’m always aware of just where the thermostat is set.
