I had mentioned in the last parent educator meeting at my adolescents school the importance of space heating system safety.
Many adolescents don’t even know how dangerous space heaters can be.
It is important for adolescents to know that there are multiple things that can go wrong with space heaters & that they are not a toy. It is extremely important to understand that small children can be seriously disfigured or even killed by space heaters. I asked that the educators in the school provide a brief lesson on what to do if there’s a fire in the house. I only asked this because I know that there was a child in the school a few years back that was killed by a house fire that was due to a space heater. The space heating system that caused the fire was localed much too close to the childrens bed. In the middle of the night, a blanket or a sheet came in contact with the space heating system & started a small flame. The flames suddenly engulfed the house & the entire family was killed. If there had been a short lesson on fire safety during school, the tragedy might have been avoided… Space heating system safety is a important concern in this town & yet, people do not want to take preventative measures to keep the families safe. I learned that there was recently a space heating system safety seminar held at the school & I felt nice about the efforts that the school was making.
