A year ago, we started thinking about upgrading the heating equipment in our rental vacation home mostly to remain competitive and save on energy after we saw most of our competitors take the option offered under Airbnb. We were worried about what it would mean for us if the other vacation properties were offering an electric heat pump while we stuck to a boiler that was old enough to demand monthly heater maintenance. The heating technician told us that a heat pump installation would mean less maintenance and we could comfortably ensure our clients enjoy indoor comfort and perfect air quality with the HEPA filter and wireless thermostat that comes with the electric heating system. It was a sudden decision but also the best decision we made for our rental because we’ve had clients inquire about it, including returning clients who could tell the difference in how the house felt. To get the electric HVAC, we had to visit several HVAC shops and compare their pricing with the HVAC products for sale because we needed a fair deal. After all, the project had not been planned for and we were using emergency money under the assumption that this was something that needed to be resolved as soon as possible. The shop where we got the HVAC serviceman who maintained and handled repair work for us had the best deal, a perk for us because they were familiar with the house, which increased our trust that we’d get the best installation. A year later and we all agree that it was a great choice because this summer we haven’t been getting random calls from clients that the house needs air conditioning help and having to call the HVAC specialist at the oddest hours.
