I didn’t fully understand the disadvantage of hard water until my partner plus I bought a property with a water well on the property! Up to that point, we’d always had access to town water, and my buddy and I had no idea the water at the new property was so overrun with minerals, the water has an unpleasant smell that reminds me of rotten eggs plus even an odd red-like color, but it is a problem for everything it touches.
The calcium, lime plus rust corrodes the tank of the water heater, shortening its lifespan! Conventional tank-style water heating systems are supposed to last somewhere from ten to fifteen years before showing signs of age.
My buddy and I always need to update the water furnace every five to eight years. It’s not odd for the tank to rupture from excessive corrosion plus flood the basement. I have lots of extra cleaning requirements due to the hardness of the water, but hard water hinders the foaming action of soaps plus shampoos, stains tubs, sinks plus toilets plus destroys the finishes on faucets! For a while, I always cleaned the aerators on the faucet because of restricted water pressure. I eventually made it easier on myself by removing the aerators entirely. My washing component is in frequent need of repairs plus never lasts as long as it should. The linens, bedding plus light colored clothing suddenly become stained due to the hard water. I no longer bother trying to use a dishwasher. The dishes plus glasses came out looking worse than when I loaded them in. There are also concerns with the water lines plus drains. The minerals accumulate within the pipes plus reduce their efficiency plus longevity, then we’ve tried many odd types of water filtration systems without success. The water is so severely hard that these systems can’t handle the demand.
