This Summer, I’m going to save more money on air conditioning costs than I ever have before.
And new HVAC technology is the reason that’s going to happen. Since I moved this far south just 6 years ago, I have come to understand the importance of air conditioning. Coming from way up north, air conditioning was almost an afterthought given how the focus of HVAC is for sure on heating. The opposite is true once I moved to the land of the heat pump. Here, it’s all about air conditioning. And from June through September, the load on the heat pump is at it’s max. I learned the hard way that you just can’t lean into all the cooling you want. That approach to cooling a home comes with a hefty price tag. It took me a couple of Summers to figure this all out. And I’ve learned a bit more with each passing year. But this year, I had a smart thermostat installed. This piece of HVAC technology will provide far more precise management of the air conditioning in my house. What’s more is that I added mechanical solar shades to the mix as well. Direct sunlight heating is a beast in the Summer and I’m not always consistent about pulling the shades. These new solar shades actually sync up with the smart thermostat. This way the smart thermostat can raise and lower the shades and I don’t have to worry with it. It’s so cool to watch how this system works. I was working in the office yesterday and for the first time, the shades came down right before lunchtime. I can’t wait to see how much we save on cooling costs this Summer.
