About two years ago, I was listening to a podcast about sustainability when the host mentioned that my friend and I needed to make some lifestyle adjustments.
- One of the many points they made was that there are now HVAC manufacturers that care about the environment.
Until I heard more, I didn’t realize how much energy consumption and carbon emissions had to do with HVAC systems’ ability to contribute to sustainability. Since ductless heat pumps make HVAC replacement work more efficient and efficient equipment is great for the environment, they advocated for their widespread adoption and suggested that anyone who hadn’t already done so install a smart thermostat to monitor usage and keep up with routine maintenance. My interest was piqued, and I would have appreciated it if they had included an HVAC expert, but alas, that was only a small part of their discussion. I needed to find out more about the ductless HVAC system they had recommended. I was at the local HVAC company to inquire about heat pumps because I needed to replace the filters in my unit. When I walked in, the first flyer I saw was for a heat pump installation service; I took this as a sign that I should learn more, and I prepared a list of questions to ask the HVAC technician when he arrived. In addition to my questions being answered, I have decided to make the switch to the more environmentally friendly option in two years. Even though I can’t find the link to the podcast anymore, my opinion of air conditioning changed after speaking with more people who had made the switch. Having more long-term support for indoor comfort is something I’m looking forward to.
