I remember riding school buses as a kid.
I hated the experience so much, and I remember how much I loathed having to do it in high school when several of my friends had their own cars at the time.
When I was a little kid, that was pretty much the only option unless you rode your bike to school or got a ride from family. Unfortunately, my parents lived too far away from the school campus for me to ride my bike or walk to school every morning. Some kids were dropped off by their parents in the mornings and picked up in the afternoons as well. When I lived up north in a rural environment, we all rode the school bus to the campus every day. In the summertime that would get fairly hot and we would all roll down the windows to let in air from outside. However, I got really cold in the winter season in that environment. We had to have heating systems in the school buses to keep the students warm. Without the heating systems in place, we all would have gotten really cold on her way to school in the mornings. Back then, it was often the coldest time of the day between 4:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. It’s especially bad in the middle of the winter when the days are the shortest. I remember being fairly warm on those buses, and that was probably the only positive thing I could remember. We never had air conditioners on the buses though, but who knows maybe they do nowadays.
