Sustainability has become a buzz word as of late, and you can’t go a week and for some of us a day without hearing the word. It has been the topic of many conversations as many people are now on a mission to live more sustainable lives. Some people have taken the necessary steps by growing their own food, reducing waste, cutting spending as well as becoming less dependent on modern conveniences. Of course, it’s difficult for many people to become sustainable as they live in major metropolitan cities and don’t have the room or the means to achieve this goal. Personally, I like the idea of becoming more sustainable, but there are certain luxuries that I am not ready to give up. I can easily become a minimalist and live in a tiny home or an off-grid house in the woods, but what I can’t do is give up having air conditioning or heating. There are many tiny homes and homesteads that are off-grid that don’t have air conditioning or heating inside of them. On the other hand, some manufacturers do install small air conditioning and heating units inside the tiny homes that they build. These units are typically more energy efficient than the average air conditioning and heating unit that you would find in a residential home. While the units do consume energy, the energy consumption is below average. If I were to switch to a sustainable living lifestyle, I would opt for one of those homes with air conditioning and heating. To compensate, I would find other ways to reduce my carbon footprint by controlling waste and planting trees as well as vegetable gardens.
